Become a
Foster Parent

Do you believe you can make a difference in the life of a child? Are you willing to open your home and heart to a child that has been neglected, abused and abandoned? Do you have the patience and understanding necessary to help a child?

Our Resource Parents (formerly Foster Parents) are selected for their integrity, maturity, and commitment to modeling positive life choices for minor/non-minor dependent children. Beyond basic needs, our Family Builders team provides stable, intensive, and therapeutic services. Agency staff collaborate with professionals to assess, treat, and meet each child's individual needs in our certified Foster Homes. In the Child Welfare System, many children receive only basic care, leading to high turnover in placements. This instability often worsens their behavior and self-esteem. Our approach emphasizes handpicked resource parents, social service referrals, and strong support from Family Builders staff to create a stable environment for these children.

Treatment Philosophy

It is the philosophy of Family Builders that participation in foster care is a continual learning experience for all parties involved. Family Builders acknowledges that:

1. We each make the healthiest decisions when we receive the support necessary to positively integrate our life experiences with our current choices.

2. We each accrue our own life experiences and wisdom.

3. It is the philosophy of Family Builders that participation in foster care is a continual learning experience for all parties involved. Family Builders acknowledges that:

Family Builders Foster Care, Inc. will ensure appropriate resources are available to meet the needs of our resource parents. Family Builders is non-discriminatory and will afford equal treatment for children and families of any race, origin, color, religion or sex. We, at Family Builders, will endeavor to promote the self-esteem, purpose, wisdom, and value of all people. Resource Parent certification is for one (1) year. At the end of the certification year, the resource parent is re-certified if all training hours are completed. Re-certification transpires if the resource parent and the agency agree to do so. If at any time the resource parent or the agency desires to terminate certification, the process will be done in writing.

Resource Parent Role

A foster caregiver provides temporary care for children, helping them feel accepted and secure. They offer guidance, discipline, positive examples, and life experiences. They encourage school attendance, attend to medical, dental, and mental health needs, and assist in achieving the child’s permanency goal, whether it’s reunification, adoption, or long-term care. Foster caregivers help children emotionally adjust to separation and placement, inform social workers of any issues or needs, and transport children to necessary appointments and proceedings.

Certification Process

It is Family Builder’s policy that EVERY resource family completes a minimum of 12 training hours before certification. Pre-certification trainings include (but are not limited to) the following topics:
